Preliminary Invitation - Call for Papers

Vancouver will host the 39th IABSE Symposium ’Engineering the Future’ (September 19-23, 2017). This symposium will explore topics related to structural engineering of buildings, bridges and other civil infrastructure. It will showcase the latest in technology and practice to enable engineers, researchers and public agencies to plan ahead. The submission of abstracts will open beginning of May. Authors are invited to submit their abstract online by October 15, 2016. The Preliminary Invitation and more information are available here..


You are invited to propose a nomination for the Outstanding Structure Award 2017. To do this, please contact the Chair of your National Group and submit nominations well before: June 30, 2016.

IABSE Guangzhou Conference 2016

The Guangzhou Conference ‘Bridges and Structures Sustainability’ Is around the corner and will be held from May 8-11, 2016. This IABSE Event is set in a new conference format, linking national and international activities into a single conference, over 600 participants are expected altogether. A Young Engineers Workshop with a Design Competition is being organised: three teams have already signed up and more teams are welcome to participate. Enrolment is possible until April 28, 2016. Timber structures have experienced a renaissance during the recent few decades due to their environmental credentials, and societal goals striving for sustainable development with lower energy demands and less pollution in all sectors including the construction sector. WG9: Construction History

IABSE Working Group ‘Construction History’ met April 15-17 in Wiesbaden, Germany. The main work consisted in reviewing 20 draft articles submitted for a SED (Structural Engineering Document) on how knowledge on construction history and awareness of cultural values influence structural engineering when dealing with existing structures when rehabilitating, strengthening or modifying them. Seven Bridges with high cultural value were also visited. read more..

Sustainable Built Environment

SBE16 Zurich is a platform for exchange between researchers and practitioners of the construction sector to foster system thinking in the built environment. Accepted papers have been allocated to the following conference topics: Distributed energy systems and infrastructure; Life-cycle oriented approaches; Integrated approaches and tools for decision-making; Innovative materials & components.
