New Group of IABSE in Indonesia

Upon invitation by IABSE Secretariat to consider establishing an National Group of IABSE, 36 Members in Indonesia met on 24 February 2016, in Bandung, to establish a National Group. It was with great pleasure, that IABSE endorsed the Indonesian Group chaired by Setyo Hardono from the Institute of Road Engineering in June. The Indonesian Group of IABSE plans to have a yearly meeting, organise either an IABSE workshop or conference in Indonesia, send a regular newsletter, and to publish a journal in collaboration with Journal Pusjatan (Institute of Engineering, Agency for Research and Development. Ministry of Public Works and Housing). IABSE congratulates the Indonesian members and looks forward to a close collaboration with the Indonesian Group in its future activities! Read more..


Excursion to Hochmosel and Lahntal Bridges

The Swiss and the German Groups of IABSE organised a joint technical tour from June 10-11, 2016, 16 members attended. Highlight of the first day was the Hochmosel Bridge, a 1,700 m long steel box girder bridge crossing the river Mosel in Zeltingen-Rachtig, Germany, at a height of 160 m and with spans up to 210 m. The guided tour led by the office of Landesbetriebs Mobilität Trier (LBM) through the assembling hall for the incremental launching and on the launching nose was highly appreciated.

NEW: SEI Open Access

Structural Engineering International (SEI) is now supporting Open Access (OA) – both Gold and Green. Upon request, Corresponding Authors can now avail the option of having their SEI published paper accessible online to public for free. Read more..


News from Members

Dan M. Frangopol, USA – has been elected as a foreign member of the Academia Europaea. He was one of only four foreign members elected in the Physics and Engineering Science section. He also received an honorary doctorate (Laurea Magistrale ad Honorem) from the Politecnico di Milano. This is the fourth honorary doctorate Frangopol has received in his career.

WG 8: Forensics Course

Following the success of the forensic structural engineering sessions at the IABSE Madrid 2014 and Geneva 2015 Conferences and the pre-conference course that took place in 2015 in Geneva, the WG is organising the course ‘Forensic Structural Engineering: causes, investigations and prevention of failures’, in Stockholm, September 21, 2016.

iBRIDGE 2016

The Istanbul Bridge Conference 2016 is aimed to provide a discussion platform to develop safe, sustainable and economically feasible solutions to be used in bridge research, design and construction.
