As the Congress organisers are busy wrapping up with their last minute preparations for the congress, the IABSE Secretariat is also getting ready for the around 150 committee members and accompanying persons attending the IABSE Annual Meetings in the beginning of the week.

One of the major developments in IABSE conferences is the usage of its conference Mobile App. This user-friendly App will provide conference participants all important information they need for the conference such as sessions with downloadable abstract papers, location maps, biographies of keynote speakers, sponsors and exhibitors to name a few. The App also allows each participant to control with whom they want to share their contact details for their own privacy. Networking between participants is also made easy with its messaging functionality.

Call for Papers

Preliminary Invitation

Vancouver will host the Annual Meetings and the 39th Symposium of IABSE during September 19-23, 2017. The Symposium topics are related to the structural engineering of buildings, bridges, and other civil engineering infrastructure. The world's structural engineers are invited to share the latest in technology and practice, and their vision for the future.

Submit your abstracts by October 15, 2016 on topics relating to the Symposium theme of ‘Engineering the Future’, under the main themes:

  • Innovations in Structures
  • Existing structures into the future
  • Performance based design

Members of IABSE are invited to propose nominations for the IABSE Awards by contacting the Chair of their National Group.
The Chairs will submit their proposals to IABSE Secretariat by the following dates:

December 15, 2016:
-International Award of Merit in Structural Engineering 2017
-IABSE Prize 2017
-Honorary Membership 2017

June 30, 2017:
-Outstanding Structure Award (OStrA) 2018

Dan M. Frangopol, USA - was selected as the recipient of the inaugural ASCE Alfredo Ang Award on Risk Analysis and Management of Civil Infrastructure. He is receiving the award "for exceptional efforts in advancing, advocating, and persistently promoting the life-cycle cost analysis of structures and structural systems, and their integration into reliability-based structural analysis and design." Obituary

Prof. Jure Radic, Chair of the Croatian Group of IABSE passed away on September 10, 2016. Jure Radić left us as a full time professor and the Head of the Bridge Department at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Zagreb. IABSE friends and colleagues will keep him in honourable remembrance and presents its sincere condolences to his family. Read the full obituary.
