Tomorrow's Megastructures

September 19-21, 2018
Preliminary Invitation 

• Megastructures: a radical paradigm shift or simply a change
  of scale?
• Today’s and tomorrow’s megastructures and megaprojects
• New trends for innovations in the construction, the preservation,
  the exploitation and the upgrading of structures.

These are the main themes that will be discussed at the 40th IABSE Symposium organised by the French Group of IABSE in cooperation with the French Association for Civil Engineering (AFGC).

We invite you to share your experiences with today’s megastructures and to present your vision of tomorrow and your prospect of future outstanding structures. The web-based paper submission platform will be opening soon in April for authors wishing to present their paper in accordance with the themes and topics of the Symposium.

'The Value of Structural Health Monitoring for the reliable Bridge Management'

On March 2-3, 2017, an interactive IABSE – COST Actions Workshop took place at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Zagreb. The Workshop which was attended by 120 participants from 40 countries, was organised by two European cooperation and networking projects under auspices of the COST framework and IABSE Working Commission 1 ‘Structural Performance, Safety and Analysis’. Finland -  On February 15-16, 2017, the Finnish Group of IABSE together with Finnish Association of Civil Engineers RIL organised an international event addressing topical viewpoints in structural safety. The topics ignorance and human errors generated lively discussions on the state-of-the-art and future of structural engineering and the construction industry. Read the report..

UK - Each year the British Group of IABSE holds its Annual Lecture and Dinner. This year’s lecture will be given by Laurent Ney on ’Old and New – Designing in an Historical Context’. He will talk about the design of a bridge, how this process is strongly influenced by the constraints of the site, whether the landscape, the urban setting, heritage issue or even procedural one.
