Trip to China

IABSE Executive Director, Chep Uytiepo was invited by Zhigang Yang, Chief Editor of BRIDGE Magazine (China), and member of the Chinese IABSE Group, to attend their event ‘Symposium on Bridge Cable System Development and Structural Innovations’ held in Wuhu, Anhui, on May 18-19, 2017. The Symposium was expected to attract construction business, structural engineers and government officials in China especially around the region.

Chep Uytiepo joined the event with Communications and Marketing Manager, Sissel Niggeler as it was a great opportunity to boost promotion of IABSE in China and to setup closer collaboration between our organisations, more..

IABSE Book Vernissage: SED 5 - 3rd Edition

SED 5 – 3rd reviewed and extended Edition “Introduction to Safety and Reliability of Structures” by Jörg Schneider and Ton Vrouwenvelder was launched on June 15, 2017, at a vernissage organised by IABSE, on the premises of ETH Zurich. Professors from ETH, representatives from the profession and PhD Students came to meet the authors and to listen about the history and development of the book with printouts, booklets, personal stories, and have their personal copy signed. Obituary - Former President and Honorary Member John M. Hanson, USA, a renowned expert in the investigations of distress and failure of concrete and steel structures, passed away on May 26, 2017, at the age of eighty-four. John joined IABSE in 1982 and was engaged in numerous association activities. He became the first non-Swiss president of IABSE (1993-1997) after the revision of the By-laws in 1990.
