IABSE Symposium Guimarães 2019
Call for Abstracts open until May 15, 2018 !

The Symposium aims to provide an international forum for the debate on, among others, such important issues as the sustainability of the built environment, risk assessment and asset management in infrastructures. The conference will be focussing on cutting-edge issues, such as Novel Management Tools for the Built Environment, Lifecycle Quality Control of New and Existing Infrastructures, and Advanced Frameworks for a Sustainable Built Environment and Risk Analysis Procedures.

We would like to make the IABSE Newsletter more interesting and relevant with more recent news about remarkable structures that are being built in your country and recent research in Universities and Companies. Please send us information about new structures, events, awards, research (recent PhD abstract), from your country at a regular basis by end of each month for inclusion in next month’s Newsletter. Recent PhD abstracts should have the following details: Title, Full name of author and email address, country, short summary, and URL to the complete thesis. IABSE British Group Chair,
Ian Firth will be on TED Conference in Vancouver in April, 2018, to participate in a TED Conference, "The Age of Amazement". He shall speak about general treatment of bridges, touching on bridges as catalysts for the growth of human society, as important features of our landscape and as amazing platforms for technological development. Collective Member: SYSTRA

The Chacao Bridge is the largest suspension bridge project in South America. SYSTRA is responsible for carrying out half the design studies, the other half will be carried out by the Norwegian designer, AAS-Jakobsen. SYSTRA is in specifically responsible for producing:

• Geological, geotechnical
   and 
seismic studies

• Detailed designs for
   the 
foundations

• Designs for the central tower,
   the steel deck and anchoring
   systems.
