Veterans Day Message

The Patriot Woodworker was founded on the principals for the care and concern for our U.S. Veterans and especially our veterans who are disabled. This Veterans Day we'd like to send you a message of support and to tell you, Thank You For Your Service!

We are in your debt, because of you, our nation has been a land of peace, where we can all go about our daily living and lives knowing that we are secure. You stood post, so we could sleep soundly, thank you Veterans.

For anyone who would like to drop by our Veterans Corner and Causes Forum and drop a word to our veterans, or for our veterans who'd like to just chat, feel free to do so.

Featured Topic

Our featured topics are hand picked by the staff at The Patriot Woodworker Community, please drop on by and see what all the excitement is about!

Prototype Side Chair by Danl

Patriot Woodworker Danl is creating a prototype for his chair builds. The chair below is made from Poplar and will be the basis for his future chairs.

Dan stated "I have been busy designing and building a side chair to go with our new kitchen table. The plan was to build one prototype out of poplar, and a 2nd chair out of poplar. Both of these chairs will be either painted black or sprayed with black lacquer. Then, the plan is to build four chairs from cherry and maple."

We'd like to give Danl recognition for diligently executing the process in this build, and approaching the project with the patience and skill of a true craftsman and artisan, great job Danl!

Sam Maloof Chair Templates by John Morris

John Morris of the Patriot Woodworker was taken to the Sam Maloof compound by his wife, for their 28th marriage anniversary, a trip he'll never forget. Drop into his gallery of images he came home with from a very memorable visit to the home and shop of an American treasure, Sam Maloof.

Image below, inside of Sam Maloof's shop, hung a variety and just a few of the templates that were used during Mr. Maloof's time, and still used today.

Featured Wiki (Black Walnut)

The Black Walnut tree is one of the best known and most valuable of all forest trees native to the United States. It is of value not only because of its beautiful and highly prized wood but for its delicious nuts used in foods such as candy, bread, cakes, and ice cream. It is strictly an American tree, growing naturally nowhere else. It has been proposed frequently as our national tree and has been known for generations as the “tree of the gods and kings.” In 1945 a Black Walnut tree in Kentucky was sold alive for $1,500 and was cut up into veneers worth $35,000. The stumps of some large trees have been sold at fabulous prices for use as veneers.
