Love Your Neighbor Day

Saturday, Sept. 19th, 9 am-3 pm (rain date Sept. 26)

For the second year, Trinity members will be participating in this worthwhile event which is organized by The Christian Church of Villa Park and St. John’s Lutheran Church.  On Love Your Neighbor Day 2019 over 90 volunteers provided assistance to 24 homeowners.

Applications are now being accepted from area homeowners who are having difficulty keeping up with work around their homes because of financial or physical limitations and who could benefit from a group of people volunteering at their home for a day.  This year, all work will be in the yard or on the exterior in the home to protect both the homeowner and the volunteers.  The work will be done by small groups of volunteers from local churches and the community.  Homeowners can rest assured that no one will be going into their home and all volunteers will be practicing social distancing.

If you or someone you know could use help from your neighbors, you are encouraged to apply now.  Applications are available in the narthex and are due Aug. 28.

It is not too early to sign-up to be a volunteer. This year, volunteers will have the option of signing up either as individuals to be assigned to a team or as a small group of people who are comfortable working together.  You can obtain a registration form in the narthex or on the Trinity website. Please return the form to Marna Rundgren by placing it in her church box or emailing her at marnarundgren@gmail.com by Sept. 5.

Armor of God Take Home VBS

Vacation Bible School may have looked different this year, but it was still a blast!  Armor of God VBS took place from July 20-24th with online and at-home activities that focused on the spiritual armor that God gives us to protect ourselves, especially in challenging times like during a pandemic!

12 different families picked up pre-packaged materials from the church on Saturday and used them to make crafts, do object lessons, and play games at home.  Church members Gloria  & Caroline Marchewka and Dave Bruschuk recorded read-aloud videos of bible stories for the kids to watch at home, while junior leaders David Sullivan and Hannah Gawat helped lead games on live Zooms!  Our online meetings included Charades, Bingo, STEM lessons, minute-to-win-it games and more!  The 23 kids also participated in a Kindness Bingo Challenge throughout the week, doing kind acts for their family and neighbors at home, to earn certificates for a free ice cream which were generously donated by Creme Ice Cream in Villa Park.

Our planning committee was Heidi Alvarez, Jenn Gawat, Kate Ilcken, Samantha Thompson, and Lisa Ticaric and they met via Zoom for weeks to plan and prep all the materials.  Thanks to their hard work, VBS 2020 was a success!
